ePORTFOLIO OVERVIEW

WHY BUILD A PORTFOLIO?

This is a short video on the value of creating your own portfolio.
Whether you are building a portfolio for school, professional development,
or a career, this video explains the deeper value of the portfolio creation process.

The following powerpoint was created by the Indiana University Kelley School of Business:

Career Portfolio by Dr. Richard T. James, Jr.

The following is an introductory video included in a dental hygienist's ePortfolio.
This is a great way to show off your personality to a prospective employer before you even get the interview.

An ePortfolio is an electronic (web-based) version of a portfolio, similar to what an artist would use to showcase his or her work.  Creation of an ePortfolio provides students an opportunity to showcase their skills, achievements, and learning at ITT Tech in a way that is easily shared with potential employers and others to whom they might want to display their work.  The ePortfolio is available to students, faculty, and Career Services staff.  Career Services staff will review student portfolios to assist each student with seeking employment.

As part of their program of study, students are expected to create an ePortfolio and upload at least one assignment from each course taken.  Instructors will access their students’ ePortfolios in order to evaluate these assignments.  Students should select the “ITT Technical Institute” design and template to ensure that student ePortfolios have a consistent structure and that work for evaluation can be easily located by the instructor.

Your ePortfolio account includes a file repository where you will store files like course papers, reports, projects, photos, and videos. These files can then be attached to any portfolio page you create.

You will share designated course work with your instructor by way of an ePortfolio class community.  A unique class community is automatically created for each course section in which you are enrolled.  Other members of the class community include your classmates and the instructor.  The instructor is set as the moderator of the automated class community and facilitates the sharing of member portfolios.

To share a portfolio with an instructor, students should select “share in a community” from the ePortfolio's management screen.  Once there, the student can select which community to share it with or even join a community if they have an invitation code.  Here are the steps:

To share within the class community, open the portfolio you intend to share, then click the “Share in Community” link listed in the “community” menu.

From the “Community Share” page, you will see each of the class communities of which you are a member.  Communities are named by the course number, section, and term.

In order to share your portfolio, simply select the course you want to share with and click Done.

Only the instructor can view student work shared in the instructor-moderated class community, unless the student specifically grants sharing rights with other individuals.

When submitting assignments for grading, students must upload their work to the "Course Portfolio Assignments” page of their portfolio.  This is where instructors will look for student portfolio work to be evaluated.  Perform the following steps to make sure your ePortfolio assignment is ready to be graded:

Upload your assignment to the file repository.  Label it by the course number and assignment name.

Add the assignment to the “Course Portfolio Assignments” page of your ePortfolio.  This is where your instructor will look to find the assignment.

Click “Save” and “Merge with Shared” (top right of portfolio screen) to ensure new uploads can be viewed by those with whom you have shared your ePortfolio.

Note:  If you have previously shared your portfolio with your instructor or others, you must click “merge w/ shared” before they will be able to view any updated content.

Faculty are to grade any portfolio assignments based ONLY upon what is displayed in the students ePortfolio.

In addition to the required portfolio related to ITT coursework, students have the ability to create additional portfolios on their ePortfolio account---and these portfolios can be shared with individuals, groups, or even the general public.
